"Seed" — Solid Wood Sculpture on a Plinth

Seed is a hand-carved form in solid hardwood — a slender spindle-shaped volume tapering at both ends and cut lengthwise by a deep hollowed channel. This interior, darker and warmer in tone, contrasts with the paler, smoothly polished edges, so the form reads like an opening husk, a petal, or a stone laid bare to reveal its heart. The sculptor worked with chisel and sander, following the natural run of the grain; small cracks, knots and colour shifts in the wood have been deliberately preserved as part of the composition. The whole piece sits on a two-tier plinth cut from the same material.

The work is quiet and meditative — one form, one gesture, no ornament. The warm honey-russet tone of the wood shifts in intensity across the day and catches raking light beautifully, emphasising the softness of the transitions. It belongs in calm interiors: a living room, a bedroom, a study, and works equally well as a statement piece in a reception area or gallery space. Hand-crafted from a single block of wood — the grain pattern, colouring and natural fissures are unrepeatable, so every piece remains one of a kind.
