"Ascent" — Wood and Metal Sculpture on a Round Base

Ascent is a handmade sculpture that sets two opposite materials against each other: heavy dark wood and light, pale sheet metal. The base of the form is a broken column built from several hand-cut wooden segments set at differing angles — a deliberately asymmetrical arrangement, like a reed bent by wind or a movement halted midway. Out of this trunk rises a thin, curving plane of metal in a crescent shape, tapering into a sharp elongated blade. Its matte silvery surface carries subtle abrasions and shadows left by hand-working, so the material reads as alive rather than factory-made.

Contrast is the heart of this piece: mass against lightness, warmth against cool, stillness against momentum. The metal form reads like a bird's wing at the moment of take-off, or a sail caught by a gust — the lower half holds the ground while the upper half tries to leave it. The sculpture stands on a round black base that closes the composition and sharpens its vertical drive. It works well in a living room, a study, an entrance hall, a lobby or a gallery space. Entirely hand-crafted — the cutting, bending, sanding and assembly are all carried out by the artist personally, which makes every piece unrepeatable.
