"Black Sun" — Textured Sculpture on a Steel Stem
Black Sun is a handmade sculpture in the form of an oval disc with a dense, bristling texture, raised on a slender steel stem set into a plain square base. The entire surface is built from hundreds of small, hand-applied elements that radiate outward in clustered tufts, suggesting lichen, sea anemones or coral growth. At the centre of the disc lies a smooth, deeply black oval plane — a calm eye at the heart of the seething structure, in sharp contrast to the roughness surrounding it. The work holds to a single colour: total, matte black, in which the form is defined by light and shadow alone.
The sculpture carries a strong, almost organic tension — from a distance it reads as a quiet closed circle; up close it dissolves into thousands of fine details you want to study from every angle. Raking light animates the texture and builds deep, shifting shadows, so the object changes across the course of the day. It suits minimalist interiors with a distinct character: a study, a living room, a collector's cabinet or a gallery space. Entirely hand-crafted — the arrangement and density of the elements are unrepeatable, so every piece is one of a kind.
