"Phases" — Modular Wall Sculpture of Gilded Crescents
Phases is a handmade wall installation built from more than a dozen curved crescent modules arranged in a loose, spreading grid. Each element is made separately — sheet metal cut by hand, bent into an open arc and finished in a golden coating with a soft satin sheen. The modules overlap and rotate in different directions, so the composition reads like a sequence of moon phases or the rhythm of waves halted mid-motion. The outer faces of the arcs glow with deep gold while their interiors stay paler and cooler, which means the whole piece shifts depending on the angle you view it from.
Light is where this work is at its strongest. Standing proud of the wall, the arcs cast soft curved shadows that become a second, moving layer of the composition, changing throughout the day. The installation fills a large empty wall beautifully — above a sofa, in a hallway, or in a hotel, restaurant or office reception. The modules can be spaced more densely or more openly to suit the scale of the room. Entirely hand-crafted: slight differences in the curve of each arc and in the texture of the finish are a natural feature of handmade work and give every set its own character.
