"Enso" — Textured Relief Painting with a Gold Ring
Enso is a handmade wall piece in which a circular relief of dense, earthy texture sits on a field of deep matte black. The centre of the circle brightens into cool blues and greens that spiral outwards in concentric rings — like a cross-section of a tree trunk, the inside of a shell, or the eye of a storm. Around this dark mass runs a broad, irregular ring applied by hand in gold paint; its open, trembling outline is the deliberate trace of a single unbroken brushstroke, echoing the Japanese enso — a symbol of emptiness, wholeness and the acceptance of imperfection. The work is set in a plain pale wood frame and signed by the artist.
The contrast of black and gold feels intimate yet powerful — the piece reads like a window into darkness with something glowing at its core. The texture comes alive under raking light: the gold shifts in intensity depending on the angle, while the relief casts real, fine shadows. It belongs in calm, quiet interiors — a bedroom, a study, a meditation corner, a hallway, and equally well in a therapist's room or a wellness space. Entirely hand-crafted; the path of the gold ring and the pattern of the texture never repeat, so every piece is unique.
