"Core" — Stele Sculpture with Layered Structure on a Steel Base

Core is a handmade sculpture in the form of a slender stele with a gently rounded top — an archaic shape that recalls a boundary stone, a doorway or a votive tablet. The sides of the block are covered in a rough, granular texture in a deep plum-violet tone, while the front face opens into a cleft revealing the interior: layers of dark mass threaded with bands of gold, turquoise, cobalt blue and green, arranged symmetrically like the strata of rock or a geological cross-section. The pattern travels from the base upward like a flame or a root, narrowing and widening as it climbs.

The effect is raw and jewel-like at once — from a distance the piece reads as a calm, monolithic form; up close it breaks into dozens of small, shimmering details. The sculpture sits on a thin, polished steel base that lifts it above the surface and reinforces its vertical energy. It works beautifully on a console, a mantelpiece, a desk, in a collector's cabinet or in a gallery space. Hand-crafted throughout: the texturing, layering and colouring are built up in stages by the artist, so the drawing of the cross-section and the distribution of colour never repeat — every piece is one of a kind.
